Language Access in the New Reality
Dec 03, 2020

CCHI is proud to announce its support of IEO's Second Virtual Conference: Language Access in the New Reality, Winter Edition, on December 3rd and 4th.

IEO-Banner-Online conference Dec

The theme of the conference is the evolution of the interpreting and translation profession during the pandemic and the possible changes to come after the election. Join us to participate in expert discussions about the most pressing issues and new developments in the industry, learn what to expect in 2021 and beyond, receive hands-on tips that will help you expand your career, network with your peers, win prizes in the IEO's raffle, get CEUs before 2020 closes, and so much more!

CCHI Executive Director Natalya Mytareva will present on "National EtoE Study: Preliminary Results." National certification for medical interpreters has been available since 2010. Yet, the number of languages available for performance assessment is limited. Language proficiency testing is not enough for many reasons, including non-transparency about its validation. In 2020, CCHI has conducted a national study about the validity of assessing competencies and skills that differentiate a competent interpreter from a fluent bilingual in an English-to-English (EtoE) format. The study compares interpreters’ performance on dual-language certification and monolingual EtoE exams. Natalya will report about the EtoE Study design, preliminary results, and implications for interpreter training, assessment, and certification.
